Filter Tested is run by a small, dedicated team of independent water filtration researchers. We are not a large media company, and we do not aspire to be one. Our focus is narrow: we research, evaluate, and write about water filtration systems with the depth and rigor that niche expertise enables.

Team Structure

Lead Researcher

The Lead Researcher directs our evaluation methodology, verifies technical claims against manufacturer documentation and certification databases, and ensures consistency across all reviews. This role requires deep familiarity with NSF/ANSI standards, EPA water quality guidelines, and filtration technology.

Background: Water quality research, environmental science, and technical product evaluation. Experience analyzing municipal water reports and interpreting laboratory test data.

Senior Editor

The Senior Editor oversees all published content, enforces voice and style guidelines, manages the fact-checking process, and ensures every article meets our evidence requirements before publication. The Senior Editor also handles correction submissions and reader feedback.

Background: Editorial management in technical and consumer product journalism. Specializes in translating complex technical information into clear, actionable guidance.

Product Analyst

The Product Analyst conducts hands-on evaluation of filtration systems, compares specifications across competing products, tracks pricing and availability, and monitors the market for new releases and discontinuations. This role maintains our product database and scoring spreadsheets.

Background: Product analysis and comparative research in home improvement and appliance categories. Experience with installation procedures and maintenance requirements across filter types.

Our Qualifications

Our team combines expertise in the following areas:

• Water Quality Research: Understanding of EPA standards, contaminant categories, and treatment technologies
• Plumbing & Engineering: Practical knowledge of home plumbing systems, water pressure, and installation requirements
• Certification Analysis: Ability to interpret NSF/ANSI certification data and verify claims against public databases
• Technical Writing: Skill in communicating complex information clearly and accurately
• Product Evaluation: Structured approach to comparing products across standardized criteria

What We Are Not

We believe in setting accurate expectations:

• We are not a large media organization with dozens of staff members. We are a focused team of three core contributors.
• We are not certified water treatment professionals or licensed plumbers. For installation advice specific to your home, consult a qualified plumber.
• We are not a laboratory. We do not conduct our own contaminant testing. Our evaluations are based on publicly available certification data and manufacturer specifications.
• We are not affiliated with any manufacturer, retailer, or industry association.
